BRS Press Release

Posted Monday July 24, 2009 in Nashville Chamber of Commerce “Small Business Wire”

BRS was recently featured in the Nashville Chamber of Commerce eNewsletter “Small Business Wire.”

As a long time member of the Nashville Chamber and due to BRS’ leading position as a RFID educator and implementer in Middle Tennessee, we were invited to write an article on RFID technology. Feel free to contact Paul directly to learn more about RFID or Barcode technology at 615-377-8849 x2903.

Reed, Paul, Nashville, TN August 3, 2009 (PressRelase Point)
In today’s economy, everyone is trying to save precious resources. Personnel have been quickly sacrificed to the budget gods, but it’s still possible to find “hidden dollars” that don’t require pink slips.

One way to find these dollars is to look at your warehouse inventory and other inventory items. Of course, you need a certain amount of inventory to run a business, but you may want to look at some automated ways to help track what your business needs truly are.

Over the years, companies have complied with Wal-Mart and the Department of Defense to use barcode tracking and RFID (radio frequency identification), but many of these companies have been slow to use the technology internally.

With a Windows Mobile platform, the price for “off-the-shelf” software has become affordable, so you can easily track your inventory or even your personnel. From products on the shelf to a service route delivery person, you can accurately determine where your dollars are going.

In this economy, it’s critical that you are able to easily identify where you are spending dollars. The good news is that this technology has become easy to use and easy on the pocketbook. Remember, by automating both your inventory and personnel, you will save more than just hidden dollars; you’ll save those pink slips as well.

BRS & Cubic Lunch & Learn

So this past thursday the 21st, Business Resource Solutions had their final Lunch & Learn on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification).  So, President-Paul Reed, Unitech representative-Jamie Shippley, and I- RFID Marketing Coordinator, traveled to Tullahoma, TN to Cubic Transportation Systems.  We arrived in excitiment to fill the eager minds with usefull knowledege on RFID technology.  Sadly, the coordianator of the event, Mr. Overman, was out on business that day, so the BRS team was unable to meet him.  However, we did meet four Cubic representatives that day each involved in varios tasks at Cubic.

BRS had gone there ecpecting barcodes to be the solution to Cubic’s problems…however after going to the plant, we quickly learned RFID is te best solution.  The barcode system they were using jsut wasn’t efficient enough, and had major errors and delays.  So not only was BRS able to suggest an implementation plan for RFID, we were also able to discover a new way RFID could be used.  Apparently some RFID tags can be read despite metal surroundings…however there are stll some kinks.  The point was that BRS did an excellent job consulting for Cubic, and assessed their needs in a cost efficeinct and time efficient manner.  Yay for BRS!

BRS, Barcodes, and RFID

So BRS, otherwise known as Business Resource Solutions, is officially up and running with the RFID Lunch & Learn seminar.  Despite many roadblocks, and cancellations, one definite seminar will be hosted May 21st at Cubic Transporation Systems.

Besides the seminars, BRS is doing a “Neighborhood Watch Program”.  We’re helping out local companies yet again.  BRS is a small local company in TN, and understands the buying power and advantages that larger organizations have.  Thus, in our Neighborhood Watch Program we’re allowing small companies in close geographic locations to combine together, and collectively get a better purchasing price from BRS.

BRS will allow you to join companies in the surrounding areas by enrolling in our Neighboorhood Watch Program, which then grants you with better purchasing power for ribbons, thermal labels, scanners, etc.

So in a struggling economy, there still are friendly prices, provided by friendly neighbors.

Up & Coming Technology

I found some more interesting items. RFID technology can be used in so many ways. So far I’ve seem with animals, inventory, medicine and even new born babies at hospitals. This technology is incredible. It is multi-dimensional and has different categories of RFID to fit individual purposes. The most recent find I had was at the MIT Research Lab. I also found this so interesting since my sister’s friend from high school attended there, and visiting the campus and the area was beautiful, I recommend anyone visit the Boston area, even in the cold winter. Anyways, MIT Research lab is using RIFD tags for paper documents. Before the use of RFID numerous files were misplaced or lost on occasion. Now MIT is embedding an RFID EPC Gen 2 Tag on files so it can keep track of all items within each folder. I really can’t wait to see who else will start using RFID.

I know this is become a blog about variosu articles, but while researching for a paper, I found out that Nine West is implementing RFID technology for various store locations. It also talks about how Wal-mart and other stores have already been using it. So it’s an interesting article on the retail front.
